Boulter & Raducanu draw qualifiers while Kartal, Jones and Burrage face tough openers

With two grass titles already under her belt, British No.1 Katie Boulter is looking for a strong start to this year's season as she is set to play a qualifier in the opening round.

Boulter faces a tough side of the draw as a potential path to the final could see her face Homburg Open winner Diana Shnaider and Australian Open champion Madison Keys.

Emma Raducanu will open her grass court season with a first round meeting with a qualifier. Should she win, the British No.2 would potentially face seventh seed and Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova in the second round. A clash with top seed Qinwen Zheng could loom later in the draw.

Sonay Kartal faces an early threat as she takes on Daria Kasatkina - the Australian world No.17 won the WTA 500 event last year at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne.

Kartal will be hoping to build on her breakthrough during last year’s grass court season where she came through qualifying at The Championships, Wimbledon to make it to the third round.

A tough draw awaits for Francesca Jones if the she makes it through her first round tie against two time WTA title winner McCartney Kessler – waiting for the British wild card in round two is Olympic champion Zheng.

Jodie Burrage – who kicked off her grass court season at the Lexus Birmingham Open last week - will face eighth seed Amanda Anisimova in the opening round. The America won her first WTA 1000 title in Doha earlier this year and is looking for her first title on grass.

Top four seeds Zheng, Keys, Emma Navarro and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina all have byes into the second round.

Other notable first round matchups include two-time former Wimbledon title winner Petra Kvitova up against 2022 Nottingham and Birmingham title champion Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Karolina Muchova, Leylah Fernandez, Yulia Putintseva and Donna Vekic will also face qualifiers in round one.

The HSBC Championships get underway on Monday 9 June. You can watch all the action exclusively across the BBC and Tennis Channel.
